A really lovely place to stay.
very friendly and warm welcome.
Accommodated my bike in their storage shed.
Good home cooked food.
Lovely bar area with real fire.
Brilliant location.
Good breakfast.

Stayed here in January 2025 with a friend.
Upon arriving we were welcomed by a nice lady at the bar. She sorted us out and got us up to our rooms.
We dropped our bags and we went down for a pint and some food.
Food was nice and what we expected for the price. We sampled a most of the ales numerous times which were very good.

For the money it was well worth it.

It is abit tired and maybe not somewhere I would be staying if I was trying to impress the wife but a great place for a bed for a night before a days walk or shoot with friends who don't quite expect as much as my wife...
I will be returning next shooting season.

We stayed here for the night because of the snow, a lot of road was closed. Staff are great and helpful. Our room had a great view. The building is old so we could hear door closing, people walking and toilet plashing. We appreciate how plenty they put the complementary hot drink sachet in the room.

Nice little pub, mainly food but has bar stools. Good (4) selection of real ales, pub grub, dog friendly. The only pub in Alston that hadn't succumbed to covid and general pub closures. Will be back.

We stopped here while doing the C2C. It was a beautiful place to have a rest day. The staff were really good and welcoming. The food was fabulous and there were vegan options, which I really appreciated. The view out of the back of the pub is gorgeous. The staff were also really understanding when we accidentally took the room key with us! The only thing is that it's a bit noisy until around 11pm, because it's a pub and is on a main road. So, earplugs are recommended for light sleepers.

Sat out the back on a sunny afternoon with views over the valley.
Plenty of outdoor seating. We booked a table for dinner which was good. Food was lovely with a couple of options for a smaller appetite. We spent £54 on 1 starter 2 mains, bottle of wine and a pint and a half.

Lovely pub with a nice atmosphere and a decent selection of beers and whiskies. We weren't locals but the lady behind the bar was friendly and welcoming.
