Had a wonderful day on the South Tynedale Railway. It’s an easy to find location with plenty of free parking over the crossing, a quaint gift shop and very clean toilet facilities.
All the volunteers/ staff I spoke with were friendly and helpful especially Dave, the driver, who went above and beyond to make my visit most memorable.
They were running their electric engine Newcastle coupled with some very cosy and spotless carriages which filled up fast with booked couch tour visitors.
The journey was beautifully long and offered stunning picturesque views throughout.
I felt the money I paid for the day was well worth it thanks to the staff and clear upkeep of the railway.
Would highly recommend and will gladly return when steam locomotives are being ran.

What a great place this is. Run by volunteers. Great place to spend at least half a day. Lots to see. Suits all ages and dog friendly. A rover ticket is Β£16 per adult , dogs are free but you must get a ticket for them. Cafe , toilets both ends of the line. Signal box and maintenance yard. Went in school holidays not to busy, booked on line (no booking fee). You can just turn up and buy a ticket. Right next to south tyne river. Large car park we'll sign posted easy to find. Highly recommend.

Very relaxing way to spend 90 mins.

There's parking available within the station itself, and some additional on street parking.

Train staff were friendly and informative, and the journey itself was very relaxing and pleasantly busy.

Would recommend this as an event to do with any family members irrespective of age.

Caught this lovely little train Alton and went through Kirkhaugh and Lyntley Halt to Slaggyford. It was a very relaxing journey sitting outside admiring the views.
There are no toilets or buffet on train, but amenities at Alton and Slaggyford, it is only a 35min journey.

A really pleasurable walk. Simple, flat and straight. So much wildlife from Deer to Oyster Catchers. Just a beautiful place. The occasional Steam Train. Perfect for a tranquil walk with picnic tables along the way.

We're staying nearby, so weheaded down on Saturday. We got tickets nice and easy from the helpful, friendly staff. We went for a short walk along the path at the side of the line while we waited for the train to arrive. It was a nice ride along the line to Slaggyford, where they had a buffet car serving drinks and snacks. It was nice that we were able to take the dogs on the trip as well.
