I started visiting this gym well over a year ago as me and my friends would meet up over summer, during this time period I have noticed an overall decline in, the treatment from staff, the atmosphere and most importantly the equipment.
I do not have a membership and have been buying day passes as I am not a local, over the last 6 months they have gone from a reasonable price of £5 to £6 and now most recently £7.50 (I am aware £2.50 isnt much but relative to price it is a %50 increase in its original rate), following this change in price I expected new facilities or something but instead I have only observed a decrease in not only the quality but the quantity of equipment, the assisted pull-up bar/dip bar has had numerous malfunctions that took months to resolve, often times rope cable attachments are in horrendous shape and need replacing, many cable machines are in dire need of WD40, the gym lacks enough weight plates for people who can lift relatively heavily as I would estimate there is around 600kg of weights on the bottom floor, so for heavily populated hours getting a good workout can be challenging for stronger or more advanced lifters.
What really motivated me to write this review was the horrendous treatment I received today from staff. I like to pay with cash whenever I purchase a day pass, and as I was visiting with my friends I brought cash for a day pass, everything is normal until entry where instantly it is obvious the gym is understaffed, the only staff member was unaware of my entry despite me calling to them multiple times and there was nobody on the front desk. So I got one of my friends who is a member to let me in, I leave the money behind the desk for the staff to put in the register. I have my workout, everything is normal, until I head out to get water because the vending machines are overpriced, upon re entry I am immediately accused of being a thief by the previously unaware employee, who then shouts across the gym to me and starts asking me questions, I comply yet get given filthy looks from across the gym by her, I really believe that had the gym not been criminally understaffed there would be zero issues, the poor customer service attitude by staff made atmosphere at IQ which, despite being an outsider seems quite tight knit, become more unfriendly.
I dont believe the gym is worth the price it charges anymore £7.50 for an understaffed, cashless gym, without much equipment. The treatment from staff really just made the whole thing worse.
Without the staff issues, regardless a day pass here is nowhere near worth £7.50 and I believe is narrowly worth £5. For a better environment, for more experienced lifters and gym noobs, that accepts cash, at a lower price, with more equipment, with more weight, with positive staff, look at either the OLD IQ FITNESS or evolve fitness.
This isnt from hate, the gym is just in a horrendous state currently.
