I thoroughly enjoyed this course and training. It helped me to refresh on some skills and learn many new ones particularly on PP and Excel. I am now far more confident in using applications and the time that I spent at DSS and the coaching, guidance and tips that Martin and Bobby provided have helped me to adapt quickly to using the IT systems and applications in my new job. I am very glad I did this course and am proud to have been part of the training. I am due to be learning MSD 365 in my new role and am already using bespoke applications.

The training delivered and the content was outstanding. Martin was brilliant in his delivery and adjusted well to the differing skill levels to ensure everyone progressed well.

The Level 1 & 2 courses I attended were very helpful and well taught. It has given me more skills and confidence in using functions within Excel. My trainer Martin was very helpful and approachable for anything that I wasn't sure of. I recommend these courses for anyone who needs to gain or build up on their IT skills.

This has been a very helpful course. I have improved my computer skills immensely. The exerience of going back to the classroom after so many years was quite daunting initially.
The teachers made me feel very comfortable and the atmosphere was very 'easy going'. The environment is very conducive to learning.

Terrible place, they preach about guiding kids to the future but they use them to gain money and power to gain land for buildings. I personally have fallen victim to their lies. promising great things but once you finish your course they will lie to you saying you never passed. They have no connections to set up for students to go on future endeavours. Purely disgusting.

DSS is an organisation that instigates a lot of debate among my peers. On one hand, I made some of my fondest memories and my best friends studying here. Ben Pearce and Shwe Yu Moon are amazing tutors who will truly push you to the best version of yourself. After three years I have learned a lot of incredibly valuable skills from these two, such as project management, interview skills, databases, programming paradigms and many more. If you consider taking a course here, make sure you are in their classroom, otherwise just walk out or idk.

On the other hand, the organisation suffers from chronic disorganisation:

• Events can be rescheduled or downright cancelled last second.

• Proper communication, not under layers of vagueness, seems to be an arcane concept from the dark ages. Information pertaining to simple things, such as assignments and deadlines, are obfuscated almost on purpose.

• Both tutors and student managers don’t have a good way to communicate with upper management.

• Students have NO influence over decision making whatsoever, a survey system was introduced at some point, however this was more or less a token move, as no actual change came from it.

• Their advertising is a mess, representatives do not know what courses consist of and will lie about course content, length and even price. The second year of my course was not even planned, yet it was still highly advertised as a selling point of the course. I had to go through a lot of stress over weather or not the second year of the course was going to happen. I had to bug the managers over it to the point that they actively avoided me. Even after the second year was confirmed, some of my fellow colleagues where forced to pay the second year of their course, even though they have been told otherwise.

• City and Guilds diplomas just don’t do them, they are not even worth the space they take up in this sentence. These diplomas are not recognised by most universities, so even if you do your best to get the highest grades you can, you will not be accepted into most universities. Furthermore, City and Guilds itself is trash. They change assignment content, deadline and regulations at their whim. they will keep you on your toes by changing any, or all of the above, at multiple times through your course.

After saying all of this I should note, the organisation is improving. They seem to have ditched C&G diplomas like the thrash they were and seem to overall improve their marketing somewhat. Further, me and my colleagues might have suffered the perfect storm, but it might not be as bad to you.

I still do not recommend taking a course here. But if you do, say hi to ben and shwe for me.

Oh and also, don’t eat the school lunch. I swear I got food poisoning from it.

Oh, and the dss logo sucks gorilla cheeks + the marketing team isgoing through these reviews and saying certain individuals are not students even tough they are, which is yet another example of how much of a mess their marketing is.ī

Great place to learn how to use IT finish my level 1-2 course and got a better understanding of IT. My tutors sindhu baskaran help me with complete the workbook for the course i was doing would recommend to people who want to learn IT to try the course out.

A very boring place to be in. unorganised teachers and that lauryn girl is annoying and they never help me out. i fell over once sprained my ankle and they didn't even care.
